Meet the Artist Behind Lighthouse Art Courses

I’m Graży, the founder of Lighthouse Art Courses. I’m an artist and a passionate traveler. Originally from Warsaw, Poland, I’ve spent the past half of my life living in Cologne, Germany. I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and shortly after my final exams, I moved to Berlin, before settling in Cologne, where I now live with my two (almost) adult daughters.
After working as a freelance illustrator for many years, I’ve recently shifted my focus to painting. Nature, in its many forms, is the primary inspiration for my work. I believe every creative activity eventually flows into one big sea of artistic expression.
This “big sea” constantly creates new waves, encouraging me to experiment, be spontaneous, and explore new paths—both in my art and my life. It’s my curiosity that pushes me out of my comfort zone, along with a certain restlessness that keeps me “on the move.” These two elements combined led me to realize that something like LIGHTHOUSE simply has to happen.
The idea for Lighthouse Art Courses came to me few years ago, during a trip to southern Portugal. I was mesmerized by the beauty of the region and, as usual, spent my time sketching the magnificent sights around me. I believe that documenting a place visually helps you connect with it on a deeper level. Even though I take countless photos with my phone, I find I remember a place much more vividly after creating my own interpretation of it on paper. This visual memory captures the essence of a location, combining all the sights, sounds, and emotions I experience while there.
That’s where the concept of “ADVENTURE” truly completes the idea of an art course. The experience of actively exploring a place frees up the creative process. During any the workshop or course with me, you’ll learn to make quick, expressive visual notes of your surroundings—recording your experiences and focusing on the journey rather than the final artwork. And this is what makes the Lighthouse Art Courses truly unique!
